Finchem's Pay Drops Slightly To $4.8M; WTA's Scott Sees 62% Boost

Finchem's '07 Salary Part Of New Six-Year
Deal That Runs Through 2012
PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem received $4.8M in compensation in '07, down about $400,000 from the previous year, according to Jon Show of SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL. Finchem's income included $1.3M in salary, $3.2M in bonuses and $240,000 in benefits. PGA Tour Exec VP/Communications & Int'l Relations Ty Votaw said that the "year-to-date drop was due to an additional bonus Finchem received in 2006 for 'extraordinary service in 2005.'" Finchem's '07 compensation figures are the "first under a new six-year contract extension" that runs through 2012. Show reports Finchem last year earned less than NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, who earned $11.2M, prorated, and NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, who earned $5.59M. MLB's '07 compensation figures are not yet available -- MLB Commissioner Bud Selig earned $11.2M in '06 -- and while the NBA's salary data is not available to the public, Commissioner David Stern is "believed to make about" $10M annually. PGA Tour Exec VPs & co-COO's Ed Moorhouse and Charlie Zink were the Tour's next highest-paid employees at $1.6M and $1.5M, respectively (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 12/1 issue).

SERVICE WINNER: SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL's Daniel Kaplan reports Sony Ericsson WTA Tour Chair & CEO Larry Scott earned $1.6M in '07, up 62% from the previous year, when he became "what is believed to be" the first exec in women's sports to earn over $1M. Scott's salary last year "placed him ahead of all but the top seven" women tennis players in terms of prize money. The WTA's tax return filed with the IRS indicated that Scott's pay increase in '07, "attributed by the WTA to rising revenue, came as the tour booked a loss" of $19M for the year. WTA Tour President Stacy Allaster earned $397,703 in '07, while WTA COO & General Counsel David Shoemaker made $339,337 (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 12/1 issue).
