Godfrey To Begin New Position
With National Post On January 1 |
Blue Jays President & CEO PAUL GODFREY, who is stepping down at the end of this year, yesterday announced that he "will take the reins" of CanWest Global Communications Corp.'s National Post newspaper on January 1, according to Grant Robertson of the GLOBE & MAIL. Godfrey, a former Toronto Sun Publisher & CEO, will serve as National Post President & CEO, a "role that is being created for him." Godfrey said that his job "will be to turn the Post into a profitable paper." Godfrey "acknowledged he is stepping into a much different era of the newspaper industry than the one he left in the 1990s." Godfrey: "I think it is challenging but achievable." Robertson notes Godfrey currently sits on CanWest's BOD, but "will step down from that position." CanWest recently announced it would cut 350 jobs from its newspaper operations, but Godfrey said that he has "no plans for an immediate shakeup at the 10-year-old newspaper" (GLOBE & MAIL, 12/2).
