ATP Cuts List Of Candidates For Top Position To Six Execs

Drewett Said To Be Among Leading
Candidates For ATP's Top Job
The ATP has cut its list of candidates to replace outgoing Exec Chair & President Etienne de Villiers to about six, but ATP Europe CEO Andy Anson, "one of the leading internal candidates, ... resigned shortly after making the cut," according to sources cited by Daniel Kaplan of SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL. Sources said that Anson "abruptly resigned last week to run England's quest to host the 2018 World Cup." Sources added the leading candidates within the ATP now include CEO of the Americas Mark Young and Int'l Group CEO Brad Drewett. ATP Tour BOD member Justin Gimelstob, who declined to comment on specific candidates, said, "We have great internal candidates we have complete confidence in, and they are all being reviewed." Kaplan reports one of the top outside candidates is former Amaury Sport Organisation President Patrice Clerc, who has previously run the French Open. Meanwhile, sources said that former Australian Open Tournament Dir Paul McNamee and Sony Ericsson Open Chair Butch Buchholz were "removed from consideration for the ATP slot ... at least for the time being." Both McNamee and Buchholz indicated that they were unaware they were no longer being considered (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 11/24 issue).
