Facility Notes
In Westchester, Peter Abraham wrote of the new Yankee Stadium, "The scope of the building is what you notice first. There is more than twice as much room as there was at the old Stadium in terms of the concourses." Seats at the stadium also are "a little further away from the field but they're not as steep as the old park," and the area closer to the field is "wider." Meanwhile, the team clubhouse has "32 lockers for the players with four of them wide enough to split into two for when the rosters expand," and "everybody on the staff has their own office" (LOHUD.com, 11/14).

HMS Officials Looking At Non-Racing Events
To Generate Additional Revenue |
ALL GUESTS WELCOME: In Ft. Lauderdale, Sarah Talalay reported Homestead-Miami Speedway (HMS) officials will "continue looking for other ways to generate revenue" beyond racing events. HMS President Curtis Gray: "We have sports groups who want to use the venue for other sporting events, running and biking. I think we're wide open for ideas that make the track as active as possible." Talalay noted that "includes renting out the track's sparkling new media center," as Gray said that the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau already is "planning a convention event there" (SUN-SENTINEL.com, 11/17).
RAY OF LIGHT? In San Diego, Tanya Sierra reports Chula Vista, California, and the Port of San Diego were "reeling yesterday after Gaylord Entertainment dropped plans for a 32-acre resort, another disappointment in 35 years of failed attempts to develop the city's waterfront." But the "dashed deal could open other doors, such as a new possible stadium site" for the Chargers. Chargers General Counsel Mark Fabiani: "The good news is that there is a large parcel on the bayfront that's now vacant. We'd look at that with open minds" (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 11/18).
