USA Basketball HQs Moving From Colorado Springs To Glendale

The Glendale (AZ) City Council has approved plans to bring the USA Basketball HQs to the city. USA Basketball will be housed in a multi-use facility which will serve as its new world HQs. Components of the project include executive offices for USA Basketball, a USA Basketball multi-court training facility, a 150-room hotel and a Midwestern Univ. sports medicine clinic (USA Basketball). In Phoenix, Carrie Watters reports USA Basketball will bring an "annual economic boost pegged" at $63.4M to the Glendale area, and the organization's campus is "expected to add $26.5[M] to Glendale's tax coffers over the next 25 years" (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 11/18). Also in Phoenix, Bob Young writes under the header, "USA Hoops Helps Put Glendale On Map, Again." USA Basketball Chair Jerry Colangelo "can add yet another piece to his portfolio" (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 11/18).

EMBRACING CHANGE: USA Basketball Assistant Exec Dir of Communications Craig Miller said of the HQs moving to Glendale after being located in Colorado Springs for 29 years, "This is going to open a lot of growth opportunities and make USA Basketball more significant. You have to embrace change, and Glendale certainly seems to be a great opportunity for us." When asked about a timetable for relocation, Miller said, "I know it's not immediate. ... We're still a long way away. It's not like they're putting the shovel in the ground yet" (Colorado Springs GAZETTE, 11/18).
