NBC Earns 13.5 Overnight For Cowboys-Redskins "SNF," Up 25%

NBC Earns Season's Second-Highest "SNF"
Overnight For Cowboys-Redskins
NBC earned a 13.5/20 overnight Nielsen rating for last night's Cowboys-Redskins "Sunday Night Football," up 25.0% from a 10.8/17 for the comparable Patriots-Bills game last year. The 13.5/20 marks the second-highest overnight of the season for "SNF", behind the 14.4 in Week Three for Cowboys-Packers. The game earned a 37.0/53 in DC and a 34.8/49 in Dallas (THE DAILY).

CODE OF SILENCE: Cowboys RB Marion Barber III had 153 total yards in last night's game, and in Dallas, Barry Horn writes, "You can be sure that NBC wanted Andrea Kremer to interview Barber on the field." However, Kremer instead talked to QB Tony Romo and DE Jay Ratliff. Cowboys Dir of PR Rich Dalrymple noted that Barber "hasn't talked to a single network reporter" this season (DALLASNEWS.com, 11/17).

UPON FURTHER REVIEW: In St. Petersburg, Tom Jones writes Fox analyst Tim Ryan is "becoming one of my favorite pro football analysts," as he "rarely says anything flat-out stupid." Ryan "isn't especially funny but doesn't try to be," and he "isn't overly opinionated but doesn't say outlandish things just for shock value." Meanwhile, NFL Network analyst Warren Sapp is a "refreshing and outrageous voice" on the net's "NFL Gameday Morning" (ST. PETERSBURG TIMES, 11/17). In N.Y., Phil Mushnick writes of NFL Net analyst Cris Collinsworth, "Having risen to the top by being concise and dead-on, Collinsworth, during this season's first two NFL Network telecasts, has become a say-anything chatterbox." But play-by-play announcer Bob Papa has made a "strong impression by trying not to make a big impression" (N.Y. POST, 11/16).

THE UPDATED SAFETY DANCE: Fox VP/Communications Dan Bell said that S John Lynch, who is officially announcing his retirement today, is "joining Fox as a game analyst," beginning with this week's Vikings-Jaguars game. Lynch will be paired with announcer Chris Rose (USA TODAY, 11/17)....In St. Paul, Charley Walters reports if Vikings S Darren Sharper does not play next season, he is "expected to receive national TV NFL analyst opportunities from Fox as well as CBS" (ST. PAUL PIONEER PRESS, 11/16).

GREEN ACRES: NBC kicked off its “Green is Universal” initiative last night on NBC’s “FNIA” where co-host Bob Costas said it was the beginning of a “week of programming designed to raise awareness about environmental issues.” Costas: “The peacock logo, and just about everything else around, has gone green around here, and at the top of the hour, the logos for the entire NBC Universal family of networks also will turn green. The theme this year is ‘Green Your Routine.’” The co-hosts were asked what efforts they are making to be environmentally-conscious, and NBC’s Jerome Bettis said he uses cold water to wash clothes, Cris Collinsworth said he walks to work and Tiki Barber said he uses mass transit. NBC’s Dan Patrick: “I’ve been recycling lines that I used at ESPN” (“FNIA,” NBC, 11/16).
