USA Basketball elected USA Basketball Managing Dir and Suns Chair JERRY COLANGELO as Chair for the 2009-12 term, succeeding President VAL ACKERMAN. Also named to the USA Basketball BOD for the term were NBA VP/Basketball Operations - Int'l KIM BOHUNY, NBA Exec VP/Basketball Operations STU JACKSON, Univ. of Texas Senior Associate AD of External Services and Women's AD CHRIS PLONSKY, Ohio State Univ. AD GENE SMITH, Big Ten Network (BTN) VP/University Planning & Development KEVIN WEIBERG, National High School Federation Exec Dir ROBERT KANABY, NBPA Exec Dir BILLY HUNTER, former AAU Chair ROD SEAFORD, former U.S. G TERESA EDWARDS and BTN announcer and former U.S. G STEVE SMITH (USA Basketball). Colangelo said that he "plans to meet 'reasonably soon'" with former U.S. men's basketball team coach MIKE KRZYZEWSKI. Colangelo will lead the BOD, which was "cut to 11 members from 25, mirroring the streamlining that has taken place" at the USOC (USA TODAY, 11/13).
FOX: BHAVESH PATEL, former Dir of Global Digital Media for the NBA, has left the league to become VP/Interactive Media for Fox Cable Networks. Patel was at the NBA for eight years, and helped negotiate many of the league's video syndication agreements with Yahoo, YouTube, Joost and others (Eric Fisher, SportsBusiness Journal).
EXECS: The NLL Toronto Rock announced BRAD WATTERS will serve as President & CEO, effective immediately. Watters spent ten years with the Rock before joining the CFL Toronto Argonauts as COO in ’07 (Rock)….Easton-Bell Sports appointed DONNA FLOOD COO, effective January 7, ’09. Flood will be responsible for the company’s global operations. Most recently, Flood served as Reebok VP/Apparel Product Marketing in Asia, and before that, was VP/Branded Apparel Development & Operations for Reebok Int’l (Easton-Bell)….NASCAR named DR. MIKE LYNCH Managing Dir of the NASCAR Green Innovation, an industry-wide green initiative for NASCAR (SCENEDAILY.com, 11/12)....The Canadian Paralympic team named BRUCE DAVIDSON Chief Medical Officer for the 2010 Vancouver Paralympics (CP, 11/12)....NEP Broadcasting named MICHAEL FERNANDER President & GM of their Supershooters Division.
