Blues Offering "Bailout" Ticket Promo On Saturday Nights
By Tripp Mickle, Staff Writer, SportsBusiness Journal
Looking to drive attendance in a down economy, the Blues are rolling out a unique "bailout" promotion that will see the team select one fan at Saturday home games and pay $1,000 toward the fans' mortgage or rent payments. The team will host 11 "Fannie and Freddie Mortgage Saturdays" over the course of the season and pay $1,000 per month for four months for all 11 selected fans. The team is coupling the special promotion, which begins November 29, with a drop in mezzanine level ticket prices. In partnership with radio station KMOX-AM, the Blues will reserve 500 seats per game for $11.20. The team tomorrow will release a 30-second commercial designed by SCP-owned Tupelo Honey on Charter Cable in St. Louis advertising the promo. SCP Partner and Blues Vice Chair & Alternate Governor Michael McCarthy: "It's a legitimate opportunity to try and help some folks through an economic struggle and try and stay creative and a little out of the box on promotions. We've still got tickets to sell, no matter how well we're doing. Why not try things to continue to do things to generate interest?"
