NBA Average Ticket Prices Up 2.8%; Grizzlies Ducats Down 22.1%
The average ticket price for an NBA game this season has risen 2.8%, with an average of $49.47 for a ticket, according to Team Marketing Report’s '08-09 Fan Cost Index report. That figure does not include much of the high-end club seating, luxury suites or private clubs. The Lakers for the seventh consecutive year have the most expensive average ticket in the league at $93.25, up 4.5% from last season. The NBA-champion Celtics rank third at $68.55, a 4.8% jump from last year. In total, there are 13 teams with averages higher than the league average. Six teams have reported overall percentage decreases from last year, with the Grizzlies reporting a 22.1% decrease due to a major price and seat restructuring this season, which eliminated several pricing categories. The Hornets continue to be one of the better bargains in the league, with an average ticket costing $25.17 and a Fan Cost Index price of $192.68. The Lakers remain at the top of the FCI chart at $479.48. The Fan Cost Index comprises the prices of four average-price tickets, two small draft beers, four small soft drinks, four regular-size hot dogs, parking for one car, two game programs and two least-expensive, adult-size adjustable caps (Team Marketing Report).
