USA Track & Field Unveils Plans To Make Organizational Changes

USA Track & Field (USATF) Friday released plans to cut the size of its board by more than half and make other structural changes. The long-awaited effort is aimed at making the organization more efficient and accountable in its governance of the sport. It also complies with requests by the USOC, which had threatened to decertify USATF and curtail its financial support of the NGB if such changes were not made. Highlights among the USATF's changes included a reduction in the size of the BOD from 32 to 15 members; the creation of a nominating committee to select board members; and expanded authority of the CEO to include selecting all national team coaches and overseeing all financial disbursements. USATF CEO Doug Logan said, "There's not a single one of the changes I wouldn't have asked for without the USOC's encouragement. I consider the changes critical to taking the sport where it needs to go over the next five years."
