Nike Preparing Boise State Merch
For Potential BCS Bowl Appearance
The Boise State football team is 7-0 entering Saturday's game against New Mexico State, and in Idaho, Brian Murphy reported Nike is "preparing Boise State merchandise" for potential appearances in the Orange, Fiesta, Sugar and Rose bowls. Nike is going through the same procedure "for all of its schools with a chance" to play in a BCS game. Blue and Orange Store Owner Travis Hawkes said that Nike is "making plans and ... forecasting the probability of certain teams making certain games." Hawkes said that Nike's "projected order for Boise State is Orange, Fiesta, Sugar and Rose" (IDAHOSTATESMAN.com, 10/29).

CAMPGROUND RACES: Camping World Chair & CEO Marcus Lemonis appeared on ESPN2’s “NASCAR Now” Thursday and discussed his company’s title sponsorship of NASCAR’s Truck Series. Lemonis: "Obviously, with the economy a little slower, it maybe didn’t look like the perfect time (to do the deal with NASCAR). But our product offering is so broad … we felt that this was really the right time for us to expand that some more.” When asked why the Truck Series was a good fit for his company, Lemonis said, “We’ll sell over 25,000 travel trailers a year, and it takes a truck to pull the travel trailer, so we love that connection. Then on the Camping World accessory side, one of our biggest categories is our towing and hitching department. So when you piece those two components together, it was a great fit” (“NASCAR Now,” ESPN2, 10/30).

CHANGING GEARS: In Daytona Beach, Godwin Kelly reported NASCAR driver Kyle Petty, who is discussing a full-time move to the Grand-Am Rolex Series next year, is "working on [a] deal to drive the No. 45 Orbit Racing Riley BMW." Petty also indicated that "his longtime sponsors, Wells Fargo and Coca-Cola, want to go along for the ride." Petty: "When my father [Petty Enterprises Chair Emeritus Richard Petty] sold Petty Enterprises to Boston Ventures, they've gone in a different direction" (Daytona Beach NEWS-JOURNAL, 10/29).
