Tottenham Planning To Build 60,000-Seat
Stadium Near Current White Hart Lane Facility |
English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur yesterday unveiled plans to build a new 60,000-seat stadium "near their current White Hart Lane" facility, according to the London TELEGRAPH. The Northumberland Development Project is a "large-scale development incorporating leisure facilities, public space and housing, as well as the new stadium." The Tottenham BOD "pushed ahead with proposals for a larger stadium with a waiting list for season tickets of around 22,000," though the board was "conscious of the importance of remaining in the Haringey area." Tottenham Chair Daniel Levy: "With a waiting list for season tickets of over 22,000 and club membership levels of over 70,000, our need for an increased capacity stadium has been clear for all to see for some time." The project will include a team museum, retail outlets, restaurants, homes and "important public space." Tottenham earned US$189.5M in revenue during the last FY, up from US$170M in the year-ago period. The franchise has a net debt of US$24.1M (London TELEGRAPH, 10/30). In Manchester, Richard Aikman reports the team considered other stadium sites, but "ultimately it was decided their current location, plus land adjacent to it, was the most suitable option." The team also intends to "begin building a new training centre next year" (Manchester GUARDIAN, 10/30).
