LOCOG CEO Looking At How To Fill Seats For 2012 London Games

Though tickets for the London 2012 Games "will not go on sale until 2011," LOCOG and the IOC "are already examining ways of ensuring all venues in London are full in 2012," according to Paul Kelso of the London TELEGRAPH. LOCOG CEO Paul Deighton is examining "using sections reserved for VIPs, athletes and the media when they are not full," and sponsors "will also be reminded of their responsibility to use tickets they are allocated." Deighton said that he is "confident that the appeal of the London Games would survive a downturn, but acknowledged that more thought was required to ensure that they were accessible and that the phenomena of empty seats seen in Beijing did not recur." Deighton: "I think you can sell an Olympic ticket into the teeth of the most severe recession because of its scarcity value and I'm pretty confident that we will hit our budget. We are talking about going on sale in 2011 so I'd rather wait to see if we really are still selling into a recession then" (London TELEGRAPH, 10/30).

I LIKE THE WAY YOU MOVE: GE for the London Games is launching a campaign on the side of London taxi cabs featuring a technique called "motion lenticular technology." The campaign, which runs until February '09, features 300 London cabs displaying the new Olympic Games designs as side panels. As the cabs move along the streets, the images on the panels appear to be animated. GE also has created an Olympic-themed business event in London, aimed at educating audiences about infrastructure issues and solutions for host cities (GE).
