Right For Me: Callaway Signs Justin Timberlake To Club Deal

Callaway Signs Timberlake, An Avid
Golfer, To A Multi-Year Agreement
Callaway has signed a multi-year deal with entertainer Justin Timberlake to endorse and play Callaway equipment. Timberlake just completed the first year of a five-year contract to host the PGA Tour’s Fall Series event in Las Vegas, and took part with other celebrities in the USGA’s U.S. Open Challenge, which aired on NBC in June. The signing follows Callaway’s decision earlier this year to move its ad account from Young & Rubicam to Eleven, S.F., as part of an attempt to reinvigorate the brand to appeal to younger players. Callaway also has deals with Annika Sorenstam and Phil Mickelson, among others (Jon Show, SportsBusiness Journal).

PADDY CAKES: Golfer Padraig Harrington, who last week re-signed with Wilson Golf in a three-year deal worth at least $10M, said there was "interest from outside, and everything had to be evaluated" in signing the contract. But he added, "I would tell you, I got a good deal.” Wilson Golf GM Tim Clarke: “Our brand has been in a resurgent position for the past three years, and a big part of that has been propelled by Padraig’s performance. Just putting the brand back out there on a global scale in front of millions and millions of golfers -- it just signifies that Wilson Golf is back and we’re here to stay.” Harrington said of being with Wilson, “I know exactly what I’m getting and how it’s working for me and that’s very important” (“Golf Central,” Golf Channel, 10/28).
