Bob Naegele Commissions Hockey Mask Featuring Sarah Palin

Wild Owner, Known For His Support Of
Republican Party, Commissions Palin Mask
Hockey goalie mask designer Frank Cipra said that former Wild Owner Bob Naegele, who serves on the Mission-Itech Hockey BOD, commissioned him to create a mask featuring Republican Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin, according to Greg Wyshynski of YAHOO SPORTS. One side of the mask shows Palin in her "trademark glasses, smiling over an Alaska wilderness featuring the Northern Lights and the Big Dipper." The other side features a "wide-eyed dog chomping on a hockey stick with a lip-stick studded collar." The GOP logo is on the chin of the mask, an American flag is "wrapped around the bottom" and the words "McCain/Palin" adorn the side. Palin is expected to receive the mask this week at a rally in Denver. Naegele was "instrumental in bringing the Republican National Convention to the Xcel Energy Center" in September (SPORTS.YAHOO.com, 10/28).

WHERE'S THE SUPPORT? Federal Election Commission records indicate that of the 20 N.Y. athletes who earn more than $10M annually in salary, only two -- Knicks G Stephon Marbury and Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez -- "gave money to a presidential candidate." Marbury in '07 donated the individual maximum of $2,300 to Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama, while Rodriguez last year gave the $2,300 maximum to former Republican Presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani (NEWSDAY, 10/29).
