Patriots Vehemently Deny ESPN Report Of Brady Friction

Patriots Release Statement Denying ESPN
Report Of Friction Between Team, Tom Brady
The Patriots Thursday released a statement denying an ESPN report of “friction between the organization” and QB Tom Brady over his choice of treatment for his knee. The statement read, “Today, ESPN cited an unnamed source who supposedly expressed the feeling of the Patriots 'organization.' This unsubstantiated report does not represent the team’s view whatsoever. ... We issued a statement last Saturday expressing our complete organizational support for Tom. ... Unfortunately, our statement was not mentioned or referenced in ESPN’s report” (SPORTINGNEWS.com, 10/26). FANHOUSE's Bruce Ciskie wrote the Patriots "allegedly hate ESPN because of their Spygate reporting and other issues." Ciskie: "What are the odds that someone in the organization is giving ESPN any straight information on this story?" (FANHOUSE.com, 10/23).

COACH CAM: In St. Petersburg, Tom Jones writes yesterday's Buccaneers-Cowboys game featured "top-notch production and direction by Fox to keep showing shots of [Buccaneers] coach Jon Gruden as he had a conniption throughout the Cowboys’ final first-half scoring drive, which was littered with Bucs penalties.” However, Jones wonders when Fox sideline reporter Tony Siragusa did not "show a little hustle and try to get a quick couple of words with Gruden at either end of halftime” (ST. PETERSBURG TIMES, 10/27).

IN THE STUDIO: In Orlando, Jerry Greene writes NFL rules “embarrass CBS.” When the Chargers-Saints game ran past 4:15pm ET, CBS “was not allowed to show the end live” as bonus coverage to markets that were not already watching the game. So many viewers watched the CBS studio crew “watching the game and commenting on what happened. Then each play would be showed belatedly after verbal ‘spoliers.’” Greene: “Surely that rule can be changed?” (ORLANDO SENTINEL, 10/27). Meanwhile, in N.Y., Mike Lupica wrote of the number of people on NBC’s “Football Night In America” set, “Does Cris Collinsworth really need this many backup singers” (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 10/26).
