The WALL STREET JOURNAL's Jon Weinbach reports the "world's wealthiest financiers" participate in a fantasy football league with a total purse of $1M. Participants in the league include Duquesne Capital Management Chair STANLEY DRUCKENMILLER, one of the league's original members, Celtics Managing Partner JIM PALLOTTA, S.F.-based Partner Fund Management Managing Partner CHRIS JAMES and Tudor Investment Corporation Founder PAUL TUDOR JONES. One league member said that the participants "have decided not to expand beyond 10 teams, and there's a waiting list to get in" (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 10/17).

OWNERS IN THE NEWS: Steelers Chair DAN ROONEY, United Steelworkers (USW) President LEO GERARD, Ohio Governor TED STRICKLAND and former Steelers players will hit the road this weekend as part of the USW “Steel Blitz for Barack” bus tour, in support of Presidential candidate BARACK OBAMA. Between now and November 1, the Steel Blitz bus tour “will make stops throughout southwestern Pennsylvania and southeastern Ohio” (AFLCIO.org, 10/16). NAMES: Author JIM WEXELL, for his latest book "STEELER NATION: A PITTSBURGH TEAM, AN AMERICAN PHENOMENON," traveled on a "9,928-mile road trip over six weeks across the country." During the trip, Wexell "stopped to visit the small towns and large ones of current and former Steelers" (PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE, 10/12)....Writer STEVE ZAILLIAN has agreed to adapt MICHAEL LEWIS' book "MONEYBALL: THE ART OF WINNING AN UNFAIR GAME," which will be directed by DAVID FRANKEL. The film is "being developed as a potential starring vehicle for BRAD PITT" (DAILY VARIETY, 10/17)....The GLOBE & MAIL's William Houston reports a movie based on the life of the CBC's DON CHERRY "could begin production in June of next year."
