NHL Franchise Notes: Brett Wilson Interested In Preds Stake

Brett Wilson Latest To Exhibit Interest In
Acquiring Stake In Predators
The GLOBE & MAIL's Allan Maki reports English Coca-Cola Football League Championship club Derby County co-Owner Brett Wilson "may get a second chance to own a piece" of the Predators "should everything fall into place." Wilson and Predators Owner Doug Freeman "met almost a year ago in Nashville and discussed a possible investment" in the team, but those plans "were derailed when Williams (Boots) Del Biaggio III was sued several times over for fraud and had his 27[%] stake in the Predators usurped by a U.S. bankruptcy court." But "if the Freeman group does end up with 100[%] control of the Predators, Wilson is convinced he and Freeman will once again discuss a potential buy-in." Wilson, who also co-Owns the Double-A Southern League West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx, said, "Would I be interested in buying into the Predators? In a heartbeat, yeah. The NHL knows I'm interested. I've supplied all the paperwork. Once Boots's share is free, we'll try to finalize an opportunity. My ownership unit would be nominal" (GLOBE & MAIL, 10/17).

BLACKHAWKS DOWN? ESPN.com's Scott Burnside wrote the Blackhawks' firing of coach Dennis Savard on Thursday "suggests at first blush" that in spite of "all the good press and positive buzz surrounding the [team], it appears the chaos DNA has not yet been eradicated from the franchise's makeup." Burnside: "The feeling that this franchise had turned a corner and was ready to return to elite status, on and off the ice, is on hold. Make no mistake, the firing of Savard four games into this season means the stakes are suddenly very high" (ESPN.com, 10/16).

CHANGE OF SCHEDULE: In Philadelphia, Sam Carchidi notes there is a chance the October 25 Devils-Flyers game at the Wachovia Center "will be moved" from 7:00pm ET to 4:00pm because World Series Game Three will be played at Citizens Bank Park that night. The Flyers "would like to move their night game to alleviate some of the traffic congestion" (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 10/17).
