Pistons Sign Presenting Sponsorship With National City Bank

The Pistons named Cleveland-based National City bank as their presenting sponsor for the '08-09 season, marking just the "second time in the team's history" such a sponsorship has been sold, according to Delores Flynn of the DETROIT NEWS. Terms of the multi-year sponsorship, which is for three-to-five years with option years, were unavailable, but it does mark the "largest single partnership for National City." The bank will be included in "various Pistons marketing efforts in television, radio and print ads and the company's logo will be a part of all ticket sales and pocket schedules." Palace Sports & Entertainment President & CEO Tom Wilson said that National City also will "help provide special game promotions and discounts on games." National City customers "will receive 20[%] off Pistons merchandise and special offers on the banks' rewards points program." National City President for Michigan and Northwest Ohio David Boyle said, "This is our opportunity to step up and say we're still here, we're strong and we want to do business here in Michigan and northwest Ohio, and partner with a great franchise." Flynn notes National City will also "continue to be a part of the Pistons Read to Achieve program" and other community relations efforts. Rock Financial had served as the team's presenting sponsor since the '03-04 season, but the current mortgage crisis "caused them to scale back" (DETROIT NEWS, 10/9). In Detroit, Katherine Yung notes National City will also have its logo on Pistons staff uniforms and will see POS "at all Locker Room stores." The bank has been a "major sponsor of the team over the past several seasons"  (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 10/9). CRAIN'S DETROIT BUSINESS' Bill Shea reported Rock Financial is "expected to maintain some presence at" The Palace of Auburn Hills during the season (CRAINSDETROIT.com, 10/8).
