Tiger's AT&T National Looks For Temporary Home Near Philly

The PGA Tour AT&T National, hosted by Tiger Woods, has made a proposal to Aronimink Golf Club in Newton Square, Pennsylvania, to temporarily host the event in 2010 and 2011, and the decision is pending approval from a "majority of the club's membership," according to Leonard Shapiro of the WASHINGTON POST. AT&T National Tournament Chair Greg McLaughlin said, "We have made a proposal to Aronimink to host our event in 2010 and 2011. The members still have to approve it, but we're excited about the possibility of going there." Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland, which has hosted the tournament since its inception in '07, will host the event next year and again "for at least three years starting in 2012." But Congressional will host the 2011 U.S. Open, and the club "will undergo a major renovation of the green complexes in the summer of 2010 that will make it unavailable for Woods's event those two years." Aronimink's members "will receive details on the proposal at a town meeting" scheduled for October 15. A result on the vote is expected by next month (WASHINGTON POST, 10/7). In Philadelphia, Joe Juliano notes Aronimink is "ranked as one of the best" courses in the Philadelphia area (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 10/7).
