Franchise Notes

In N.Y., Holly Sanders reports the Nets for 1,300 seats are "offering sports fans the option to buy season tickets instantly and not charge them until" January 5. Nets President & CEO Brett Yormark "believes this is the first time a major sports franchise has offered this kind of promotion to lure season ticket holders." Yormark: "The retailers have been doing this for years as a way to boost business. Given what's going on in the marketplace we thought we would introduce that kind of offer now." The Nets "have sold about 1,600 new season tickets this year, meeting their goal so far." Yormark indicated that "existing season ticket holders are re-upping at 'good, not great' rates" (N.Y. POST, 10/1).

Penguins Have Already Sold Out
10 Games In Upcoming Season
HAPPY FEET: In Pittsburgh, Ray Fittipaldo writes the Penguins "have never been more popular, and it is being reflected in the club's climbing ticket sales." The Penguins have "sold out a club-record 67 consecutive games, including regular season and playoffs, dating to the 2006-07 season." The team has sold out 10 games on the '08-09 schedule and a "limited number of tickets remain for the other 30." At "no other time in the Penguins' 42-year history has the club enjoyed such success at the box office" (PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE, 10/1).

MEN IN BLACK: SACRAMENTO BUSINESS JOURNAL's Kelly Johnson reported the NBA Kings "have unveiled a new team uniform that sports more of the color black." Kings VP/Business Communications Mitch Germann said the team in response to fan requests "incorporated as much black into the new uniforms as possible while still retaining the Kings identity." The home white jersey now displays "Sacramento" on the front, while the road uniform says "Kings" on the front (BIZJOURNALS.com, 9/30).
