The Pirates named former Atlanta Spirit Exec VP & CMO LOU DEPAOLI Exec VP & CMO. DePaoli will oversee all marketing, ticket sales and corporate sales efforts for the club (Pirates)....Spurs Sports & Entertainment (SS&E) named AHL Philadelphia Phantoms and NLL Philadelphia Wings COO FRANK MICELI Senior VP/Marketing & Sales. Miceli will oversee all marketing, promotional, ticket sales, new media and communications initiatives for the Spurs, AHL San Antonio Rampage, WNBA San Antonio Silver Stars, NBA D-League Austin Toros and the AT&T Center (SS&E). Miceli is "expected to start his new duties by mid-October" (SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS, 9/27)....The Hornets have hired industry veteran TOM WARD as VP/Corporate Partnerships, effective Wednesday. Ward has a 29-year career in pro sports, including a nine-year stint with the then-Charlotte Hornets from '88-97. Ward left the Hornets in '97 to work for the Predators and he most recently worked for the Nationals as Senior VP & CMO (John Lombardo, SportsBusiness Journal)....The Heat have named Dir of Corporate & Premium Services NICK ARISON, the son of Heat Owner MICKY ARISON, as VP/Basketball Operations (South Florida SUN-SENTINEL, 9/29).
MLB NET: In this week's SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, John Ourand reports MLB Network has named FSN Coordinating Producer for "BDSSP" JOHN ENTZ as Senior VP/Production and NFL Network Dir of Program Planning ANDY BUTTERS as VP/Programming. Entz and Butters both will report to MLB Net President & CEO TONY PETITTI, who "still needs to hire a head of communications" for the net (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 9/29 issue).
EXECS: Open Sports named Integrate Marketing LLC President & CEO MARTIN BERMAN VP/Sales (Open Sports)....The ECHL has promoted VP/Communications JACK CARNEFIX to Senior VP/Communications & New Media (ECHL)....New York Univ. Senior Associate AD JANICE QUINN has retired as women's basketball coach, but will retain her athletics department role. Meanwhile, Seton Hall Univ. named MICHAEL KOWALSKY Assistant Dir of Communications, BRIAN POLL Assistant Dir of Recreational Services, ALEXANDRA AYER Marketing Manager, STEPHANIE GEBHARDT Assistant Ticket Manager, and SUSAN GIESEMANN and JESSICA VIANA Assistant Trainers.
