"The new stadium will hold 53,000 people, and be (at over $1 Billion) the third-most expensive stadium ever constructed. There is no pricetag on memories though.”

"Yankee Stadium is a great place, but it is hardly a good looking park. One could say that the stadium post-renovation lost much of its character as a result of the 1970’s trend of cookie cutter stadiums. The new Stadium will give that ‘old’ feeling back to the fans and players.”

“The new Yankee Stadium has been conceived and built exclusively for the high-end luxury customer. It is not for Yankee fans; it is for corporations and the super-rich. … I only wish that the field itself would remain accessible to the passionate and diverse fanbase that is ultimately paying for it.”

"Advancements of technology, architecture and infrastructure since 1923 merit a new pad, as almost all pro sports teams have recognized. The Red Sox and Cubs may beg to differ, but they've won exactly two World Series since 1918.”

"When the Yankees are looking for nearly $400 million in order to finish the stadium’s massive video screen, it seems rather ridiculous in an unnecessary sort of way (yet at the same time, I want that … screen).”

SportsMediaChallenge's Buzz Manager analyzed online discussion surrounding the Yankees move into the new Yankee Stadium, specifically the differences between the two facilities and how the new stadium is being financed. Visit www.SportsBusinessDaily.com for more info. See more info on this topic.

  • The Buzz ranked 6 out of 10, a topic of a medium level of interest among sports bloggers.
  • There was no positive commentary.
  • Bloggers in the negative category were the majority. Some took issue with public financing of sports venues in general, while others disliked what they suggested seemed like greed from the Yankees organization in trying to get special allowances from the IRS. Others acknowledge the many new luxurious amenities of the new stadium, but lament the loss of the historical feel of the old stadium.
  • Bloggers in the neutral category discussed the history of the old stadium. One mentioned the extensive coverage scheduled to air on ESPN on Sunday, the day of the last game at Yankee Stadium.
