Feeling Blue: Dodgers End Triple-A Affiliation With Las Vegas 51s

The Dodgers Thursday "ended their eight-year Triple-A affiliation" with the Triple-A PCL Las Vegas 51s by "agreeing to a two-year player development contract" with the Triple-A PCL Albuquerque Isotopes, according to Todd Dewey of the LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL. The move leaves the 51s "looking for a new [MLB] affiliate, its third after 26 seasons, with potential candidates" including the Marlins, Nationals or Blue Jays. Teams and affiliates "have until Sept. 30 to reach an agreement," and if one is "not reached by then, the league will assign a team an affiliate." The Dodgers previously had a minor league relationship with the Triple-A PCL Albuquerque Dukes from '63-'00, before the Dukes relocated to Portland (LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL, 9/19).

INDIANS: In Columbus, Jim Massie reports the Indians and the Triple-A Int'l League Columbus Clippers Thursday "agreed to terms for a four-year triple-A working agreement that coincides wtih the opening of Huntington Park in April." No Columbus minor-league team "has ever been affiliated with the Indians" or the Reds. The move gives the Indians four minor-league teams in Ohio, including the Double-A Eastern League Akron Aeros, the Single-A Midwest League Lake County Captains and the Single-A New York-Penn League Mahoning Valley Scrappers (COLUMBUS DISPATCH, 9/19).

NATIONALS: In DC, Carig & Harlan report Nationals Owner Mark Lerner, President Stan Kasten and GM Jim Bowden Thursday "toured the facilities" of the Triple-A Int'l League Syracuse Chiefs and "discussed the potential relocation" of their Triple-A team. The Nationals "will likely know [their] fate toward the end of the weekend," as Chiefs officials Saturday "will give a similar tour to the [Marlins], who are also looking to relocate" (WASHINGTON POST, 9/19). This past season, the Nationals were affiliated with Columbus, while the Marlins were with Albuquerque (THE DAILY).
