Honda Adds To IRL Sponsorship Portfolio
With Title Sponsorship Of Toronto Race |
Andretti Green Promotions (AGP), a subsidiary of the Andretti Green Racing team, is "expected to unveil Honda today as the new title sponsor" for the July 12, 2009 IndyCar Series race in Toronto, according to Jeff Pappone of the GLOBE & MAIL. The deal "solidifies Honda's links" with AGP, with the two having "combined forces on the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg." The car manufacturer has been the St. Pete race's title sponsor since the race joined the IRL schedule in '05. The Toronto race "needed to find a backer after Steelback Breweries went into receivership a few months after signing a multiyear deal with Champ Car to be the title sponsor beginning in 2007." Pappone notes it is "also thought that Tourism Toronto and the Ontario government will add some cash to guarantee the three-day event continues to inject an estimated $50[M] a year into Toronto's economy" (GLOBE & MAIL, 9/18).
