WNBA Attendance Up 2.7%; Mystics, Mercury Shows Good Growth

Fueled by a league record 46 sellouts, the WNBA averaged 7,949 fans per game this season, up 2.7% from a year ago. The Shock edged out the Sparks for the attendance title with 9,569 fans per game, which was off 1.8% from '07. The Sparks saw a 9.4% jump in attendance during F Candace Parker's rookie campaign. The Mystics saw the biggest jump in average attendance this season, up 16.8% at Verizon Center. The Comets, who made the move from the Toyota Center to Reliant Arena for the '08 season, saw the sharpest drop among WNBA franchises, off 19.4%. In their inaugural season, the Dream finished sixth in the league in average attendance, despite finishing the season with only four wins and 30 losses.
