Texans' McNair Hopeful Reliant Will Be Ready For October 5 Game

Texans Owner Discusses Options If Reliant
Stadium Not Ready For October 5 Game
Texans Owner Bob McNair yesterday "remained hopeful the Texans will be able to host" the Colts on October 5, but if the "damage to Reliant Stadium's retractable roof caused by Hurricane Ike is too extensive for the Texans to play in their home stadium, Rice Stadium is an option," according to John McClain of the HOUSTON CHRONICLE. McNair: "We've discussed that as a possibility if we could not play here, [but] we'd have to talk to Rice." McNair added of Reliant, "We have power now. The air-conditioning is working. We're not aware of anything else that would have created a serious problem. I think it's probably going to work out all right. ... So far, no one has noted any structural damage. In terms of the roof panels, we don't know how long it'll take to replace them." SMG, which manages Reliant, is expected Friday to "give an update that could tell the Texans when they can return" to the stadium (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 9/17). The CHRONICLE's McClain reports a "best-case scenario is that the engineers and builders can fix the roof, but considering that five panels are missing, that doesn't seem likely." The "next-best scenario would be for the Texans to play at Reliant Stadium without a roof" (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 9/17).

DYNAMO: In Houston, Bernardo Fallas reports Saturday's MLS Earthquakes-Dynamo match will still be held at Robertson Stadium, but the kickoff "has been moved up" from 7:30pm CT to 7:00pm. With "just under 10,000 tickets still available," the Dynamo "will make it more affordable for fans and families to attend." Children 14-and-under "will receive free admission," and police, firefighters, EMTs and "any other first responders also will get in free with proper identification." Adult tickets will cost $10, "roughly half the average ticket price, with all the proceeds going to Houston- and Galveston-area youth soccer organizations affected by the storm" (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 9/17).
