Bucks Prepare To Play In China, Look For Global Business Exposure

Bucks Hoping Trip Abroad Will Help
Strengthen Business Ties To China |
Several Milwaukee-area business execs will accompany the Bucks on a trip to China in October with the "hope of strengthening business and cultural ties there," according to Rich Rovito of the BUSINESS JOURNAL OF MILWAUKEE. The Bucks will play two exhibition games against the Warriors while in China, and even without F Yi Jianlian, who was traded to the Nets in June, the trip "offers a unique marketing opportunity for Milwaukee-area businesses." Milwaukee-based mining equipment manufacturer Bucyrus Int'l Inc. CEO Tim Sullivan said, "It's a little disappointing losing Yi, but the Bucks got to be known in China because of him." Bucks VP/Business Operations John Steinmiller said that the trip to China "not only will benefit the Bucks and the NBA but also the Milwaukee-area business community." Steinmiller: "The more times Milwaukee companies can present themselves in China is a big plus." Steinmiller added that "landing business in China will help boost the viability of Milwaukee-area companies, many of which are Bucks' sponsors and Bradley Center suite holders." Steinmiller said, "The Bucks are an asset that can be leveraged not only in the Milwaukee area but in China as well." Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce President Tim Sheehy said, "This is the value of having an NBA franchise in Milwaukee. It gives us national and global exposure" (BUSINESS JOURNAL OF MILWAUKEE, 9/12 issue).
