| Ivanovic Seeks Lifetime Apparel And Shoe Deal |
Sony Ericsson WTA Tour player Ana Ivanovic's shoe and apparel deal with adidas expires at the end of '09, and her management team is pitching a "lifetime deal" that would be the "most lucrative endorsement in the history of women's sports," according to sources cited by Darren Rovell of CNBC.com. It is believed that the deal DH Management's Dan Holzmann and Gavin Versi are seeking for Ivanovic's next shoe and apparel suitor is a "10-year guarantee with the potential for Ivanovic to earn additional money in her post-career life as a brand spokesperson." Sources said that the goal is for Ivanovic "to have the ability to earn $10[M] in some years from this brand if she plays in most tournaments, becomes No. 1 in the world and consistently wins," and her management is "already hearing from companies who are interested." A source indicated that adidas is "willing to play on the lifetime deal requirement at around $3.5[M] a year for every year she satisfies the minimum playing requirements," while bonuses could "boost the deal to $5.5[M] a year." Ivanovic started her career with Nike before switching to adidas in '06, and sources said that Nike has "at least expressed initial interest" in the new deal. Rovell notes it is believed that Ivanovic "has a third suitor, which could be a Chinese company like Li Ning, Peak and Anta" (CNBC.com, 9/12).
THE CAT'S MEOW: WTAer Serena Williams appeared on NBC’s “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” Thursday night. O’Brien said to Williams, “It’s important to you to look good on the court. ... You think that’s important to how you play, don’t you?” Williams: “Absolutely. I think if you look better you play better. If you look better you feel better about yourself as well and most times, people only see me on the court." Williams then discussed the famous catsuit she wore several years ago at the U.S. Open. Williams: "I was like, ‘I don’t want to wear it,’ and the sponsors wanted me to wear it. … I wasn’t really confident in that. I just had to do it because it was what we designed. It was my idea” (“Late Night with Conan O’Brien,” NBC, 9/11).
