Fans More Upbeat At State Of The Bruins Town Hall Meeting
Last night's State of the Bruins Town Hall meeting at TD Banknorth Garden was attended by "approximately 720 season ticket-holders" and featured an atmosphere that was "decidedly more upbeat" than last year, according to Steve Conroy of the BOSTON HERALD. During the meeting, Bruins Owner Jeremy Jacobs, Exec VP Charlie Jacobs, VP Cam Neely, GM Peter Chiarelli, coach Claude Julien and Ds Zdeno Chara and Aaron Ward "fielded questions for about 90 minutes." Charlie Jacobs: "We do have a situation where the Celtics and Red Sox and Patriots have had such wonderful success. And I do believe that that adds pressure and expectations to what the Bruins [need] to do" (BOSTON HERALD, 9/11). In Massachusetts, Mike Loftus noted, "None in the crowd of 720 booed the introduction" of Jeremy Jacobs, who "was only asked a couple of questions once fans got a chance to address the group of executives." Fans, "for the most part, were complimentary, even thankful" (PATRIOT LEDGER, 9/11).

Hurricanes Officially Unveil Third

HURRICANES: In Raleigh, Chip Alexander notes the Hurricanes officially unveiled their third jersey yesterday, and "each piece of the uniform is primarily black, including the helmets, gloves, socks and the jersey." The Hurricanes' uniform colors have been red since the team moved to Raleigh in '98. Hurricanes GM Jim Rutherford: "We're very proud of our red traditional jerseys. But after 10 seasons, it's time to have a new look." The uniforms, which the Hurricanes will wear in 15 home games per league rules, feature the team's secondary logo on the center of the jersey. The uniforms will go on sale September 21 at the Caniac Carnival, the team's season kickoff event (Raleigh NEWS & OBSERVER, 9/11).
PENGUINS: In Pittsburgh, Tricia Lafferty reports Penguins C Sidney Crosby, "dressed in jeans and a jersey, was one of 10 Penguins who delivered tickets yesterday to the homes of 35 randomly chosen season-ticket holders." Penguins G Marc-Andre Fleury, Cs Jordan Staal, Maxime Talbot and Tyler Kennedy, Ds Sergei Gonchar and Brooks Orpik, RW Pascal Dupuis, LW Jeff Taffe and coach Michel Therrien "each made a couple home visits" (Pittsburgh TRIBUNE-REVIEW, 9/11).
