SEC Commissioner Mike Slive Second Highest-Paid BCS Commissioner

Slive Second-Highest
Paid BCS Commissioner
SEC Commissioner Mike Slive "was the second highest-paid commissioner among [BCS] members in 2007 while leading an organization with $149[M] in revenue," according to Jimmy DeButts of the BIRMINGHAM BUSINESS JOURNAL. Recently filed IRS documents indicated that Slive "received a $1.8[M] compensation package for the year ended June 30, 2007." Slive "trailed only Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delany in terms of compensation." Delany's package was "worth $2.6[M] for the year ended June 30, 2007," including a base salary of $800,000, with $1.5M in bonuses and nearly $300,000 in defered compensation. Slive's "base salary was $525,000 and he had $1.25[M] in deferred compensation." SEC Exec Associate Commissioner Mark Womack said that Slive's compensation for '08 "is in line with his base salary of 2007 and does not include another deferred payment." DeButts notes ACC Commissioner John Swofford's '07 compensation package was worth $924,000; former Big 12 Commissioner Kevin Weiberg "received $700,000 while Big East Conference Commissioner Michael Tranghese earned $813,000" (BIRMINGHAM BUSINESS JOURNAL, 9/5 issue).
