The WNBA appointed former Wild VP/Corporate Sales & Service and AHL Houston Aeros President TOM GARRITY as Comets COO, effective last Wednesday. Garrity, who last month left Minnesota Sports & Entertainment to form Quan Sports Marketing, will be responsible for overseeing the Comets’ day-to-day business operations and will report to the WNBA league office (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 9/6)....The Thunder have promoted Equipment Manager MARC ST. YVES to Dir of Team Operations. Yves had served as Equipment Manager for the franchise since ’85 (Thunder).
SIGNALING TO SMOKE: Stewart-Haas Racing has named DARIAN GRUBB as crew chief for driver TONY STEWART’s No. 14 NASCAR Sprint Cup entry for the ’09 season. Grubb previously worked as an engineering manager at Hendrick Motorsports and was driver JIMMIE JOHNSON’s substitute crew chief in ’06 when CHAD KNAUS was suspended four races (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 9/6).
