Bloggers discuss the idea of extending the NFL's regular season from 16 games to 17 or 18 games and shortening the preseason.

SportsMedia Challenge's Buzz Manager analyzed online discussion surrounding the possibility of the NFL expanding its regular season schedule to 18 games and decreasing the number of preseason games. The Buzz ranked 1 out of 10, a topic of a very low level of interest among sports bloggers this week. There was very little conversation about this topic this week, with the focus of most NFL discussion placed on the start of the regular season.

Bloggers in the positive category are primarily happy about the decrease in preseason games that they describe as "boring" and unfair for fans that get what is perceived as an inferior product while still paying regular season prices.

There was no negative commentary.

Bloggers in the neutral category examined some of the pros and cons for both owners and players should the season become longer, such as increased revenue for owners, but also the argument that players should be paid more for the longer season. One blogger worried the change would result in fewer opportunities for younger players to develop and earn their roster spots, but thought the longer season would make it more likely the best teams come out on top.
