NLL Interested In Bringing Expansion Team To Oklahoma City
The NLL "has shown interest in bringing an expansion franchise to Oklahoma City," and Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett "is listening," according to Robert Przybylo of the DAILY OKLAHOMAN. Cornett: "We've been working with the league for about 18 months now, trying to get something done. We feel that once the sport gets introduced, it will do really well here." Przybylo notes home games "would be at the Ford Center," and NLL Commissioner Jim Jennings said that he has "no worries about finding dates with the arena because he's gone through the same circumstances elsewhere." The "biggest obstacle for both sides is finding the right ownership group." The NLL is entering its 23rd season and has 13 teams in the U.S. and Canada, and Jennings said that he "would like Oklahoma City to be the league's first venture into the Southwest." Jennings added that Dallas, Houston and Salt Lake City "are among other cities where he would like to see expansion franchises" (DAILY OKLAHOMAN, 9/5).
