Phelps (r) Using Speedo Bonus To
Establish Charitable Foundation
U.S. Olympic Swimmer MICHAEL PHELPS has established the Michael Phelps Foundation and made his first donation by committing the $1M bonus he received from Speedo for his performance at the Beijing Games to the foundation (Speedo). Speedo also said that it will donate $200,000 to the foundation (Baltimore SUN, 9/3).

IN THE TRENCHES: In N.Y., John Branch profiles CAA Sports' TOM CONDON and BEN DOGRA, who along with CAA's JIM STEINER and KEN KREMER, rep about 130 NFLers, including four of the top eight '08 draft picks. CAA Sports has repped four of the past five first overall draft picks and 48 first-round selections since '01, "far more than any competitors." Condon: "We went nine consecutive years where Kenny and I either had the most first-round draft choices or were tied" (N.Y. TIMES, 9/3).

SILVER SCREEN: The HOLLYWOOD REPORTER's Zeitchik & Goldstein report director DARREN ARONOFSKY's "The Wrestler," a profile of an aging athlete, is "one of the films most likely to snag a deal" at the Toronto Int'l Film Festival, which begins tomorrow. Meanwhile, the "presence and promotional support" of Cavaliers F LEBRON JAMES for "More Than A Game," about James' high school basketball team, "should help elevate the [documentary] beyond the category's recent, modest expectations" (HOLLYWOOD REPORTER, 9/3). The AP's Tom Withers wrote "More Than A Game" is "about much more than basketball," as at its "core is a story of friendship, loyalty and love" (AP, 9/2). Meanwhile, in Toronto, Jason MacNeil reports director JASON REITMAN and actors TIM ROBBINS, D.B. SWEENEY, ALAN THICKE and CAMERON BANCROFT are among a team of celebrities who Friday will take on current NHLers in the inaugural Festival Cup at the Air Canada Centre, a benefit for Right To Play (TORONTO SUN, 9/3).

HONORS & AWARDS: Cowboys Owner JERRY JONES last night received the Lamar Hunt Award during the Dallas All Sports Association banquet. Jones said of late Chiefs Owner LAMAR HUNT: "He was a mentor for me. I got to meet him when I was about 21, and he met me at the airport. We had lunch. I barely had enough money to fly to him and talk to him financially, yet he treated me like I was a rock star. I never forgot it."
