Strahan Will Not Come Out Of
Retirement For Injury-Plagued Giants
FOXSPORTS.com's Jay Glazer reported Fox' Michael Strahan "has decided to remain retired and has turned down the Giants' offer to lure him back to action."  Strahan said that the money offered in discussions with the team "was enough to do the deal," but "in the end, it became a matter of whether or not he wanted to put his body through the rigors of another NFL season." Strahan: "I've got a great home at FOX now and I think it's where I belong" (FOXSPORTS.com, 8/26).

OFF PITCH: The HOLLYWOOD REPORTER's Eric Lyman reports yesterday's second deadline for bidding rights for Italy's Serie A soccer season "came and went without a winning bidder." The Italian Football Federation, which "has been unable to find a taker" for the US$104M rights package, "has given no indication how it will proceed" (HOLLYWOOD REPORTER, 8/27).

NOTES: NFL Network this season will "debut its first-ever pregame show -- the two-hour 'NFL GameDay' -- to air Sundays from 10 a.m. ET to noon." "NFL GameDay" will use former NFLer Warren Sapp and NFL Network analyst Marshall Faulk as analysts (USA TODAY, 8/27)....In N.Y., Don Kaplan reports ESPN "is developing a late night talk show" to air on ESPN2. Officials said that the show "would be more of a cross between talk radio and 'SportsCenter' than 'The Tonight Show.'" Kaplan notes the new show reportedly would include three recognizable ESPN personalities offering their opinions on the day's sports news" (N.Y. POST, 8/27).
