Howard Wore Adidas Rapid Bounce
Shoes During Beijing Games
SPORTINGNEWS.com's Chris Littmann reported adidas "didn't sell the signature shoes worn" by Magic C Dwight Howard and WNBA Sparks F Candace Parker during the Beijing Olympics. The Games "were more of a preview ... as Howard wore the adidas Rapid Bounce for part of the Olympics and Parker wore the Pilrahan III." The shoes will be available in stores this fall (SPORTINGNEWS.com, 8/25).

BEGINNING OF THE END? Red Sox P Tim Wakefield, who serves as a spokesperson for New Hampshire-based The Mortgage Specialists Inc., said that he is "aware of the firm's problems and isn't sure he'll continue as company ad man." Wakefield: "It's under review." In Boston, Jerry Kronenberg noted the company reportedly has been "forging client signatures and dumping incriminating records" (BOSTON HERALD, 8/24).

SPONSOR DAY: In Boston, Jim McCabe reports PGA Tour golfer Geoff Ogilvy yesterday "cleared most of the day to spend with folks from Puma, one of his major corporate sponsors," and he drove a '69 Honda Mini Trail as "part of an ad campaign for the company's spring line." Ogilvy was "having an enjoyable time with the 20 or so people involved in this endeavor," from his manager, Jens Beck, to Puma Int'l Business Unit Manager Bob Philion (BOSTON GLOBE, 8/26).

LOUISIANA PURCHASE: In Baton Rouge, Chris Gautreau reported LSU Friday "signed Capital One as its new bank sponsor," parting ways with Chase Bank after 10 years. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Chase's deal with LSU began in '98, when corporate predecessor Bank One signed a five-year, $3.7M deal with the school, which was renewed in '03 (Baton Rouge ADVOCATE, 8/23).
