Jets' PSL Sales For New Stadium Will Not Include Upper Bowl

The Jets today announced plans for the team to sell PSLs to the majority of seats in their new stadium, which is scheduled to open for the 2010 season, but the club will not sell PSLs for the 27,000 seats in the upper bowl. The PSLs will range from $4,000-25,000, excluding 2,000 seats in the Coaches Club section, which will be auctioned this fall. Fans will be required to put a 20% deposit down upon purchase, but they can pay the remainder of the cost through a five-year financing plan. The Jets will use a priority system to determine the sale of PSLs based first on seniority, followed by seat location (Jets).

FEELING THE ECONOMIC CRUNCH: In N.Y., Richard Sandomir in a front-page piece reports with the Mets, Yankees, Jets and NFL Giants planning to open three new stadiums within 17 months and 20 miles of each other, fans are facing "startling increases in ticket costs during a serious economic downturn." The teams are "confident market research supports the increases, but season-ticket holders say the price they are being asked to pay in the new stadiums ... is turning them into something other than fans." Two dozen N.Y.-area fans indicated that they are "starting to feel like unwitting bankers." Some fans "want to downgrade -- or else drop their tickets," while others "want to flip some of their [PSLs] for a profit -- after holding them for the required minimum of one year -- to pay for the remaining ones." Some are "seeking partners to shoulder the costs." But Giants co-Owner John Mara said, "It's impossible to build a stadium of this magnitude without public funding unless you do something significant with ticket prices or PSLs" (N.Y. TIMES, 8/26).
