Jets Being Selective On What Interviews Favre Can Participate In

Jets Allowing Favre To Do One-On-One
Interviews On Selective Basis
When Jets QB Brett Favre arrived at the team's training camp, "a rule was immediately set: He would give no one-on-one interviews," according to Bob Raissman of the N.Y. DAILY NEWS. However, last week the Jets' stated policy concerning Favre "was altered." The policy "now seemed to be highly selective and exercised at the Jets' discretion." On Monday, Favre did a one-on-one telephone interview with Michael Kay of ESPN Radio 1050 N.Y., the Jets' radio rights holder. The station "promoted the interview as Favre's first 'exclusive'" interview since joining the Jets. On Tuesday, Favre was on WFAN-AM with host Mike Francesa. Raissman wondered, "Why did the Jets break their 'rule' to accomodate Francesa?" Also, while the Jets delivered Favre to ESPN 1050, the team has "shown no inclination to accomodate [SNY], the team's local TV partner." Raissman: "You're paying the Jets a healthy fee to be their 'official local TV home,' you are producing all these Jets shows, and can't even get a one-on-one with Favre." Jets Senior Dir of Media Relations Bruce Speight said, "Adding Brett Favre two weeks into training camp has been a unique situation. We have made every effort to be honest and transparent" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 8/22).

CBS HAS EYE ON FAVRE: On Long Island, Neil Best reports CBS "already is peering deep into December and salivating about the long-term impact" of Favre. The Jets' "final six games -- and a total of 12 -- are scheduled for [CBS], barring flexible schedule poaching by NBC." CBS' Jim Nantz said of Favre, "We should be paying part of his salary." CBS "will send its top team of Nantz and Phil Simms to the first two games, against the Dolphins and Patriots." The Jets-Dolphins game originally was "to go to 16[%] of the nation; now it will be 40[%]" (NEWSDAY, 8/22).
