Bolt, Guo, Johnson Among Athletes Gaining In Media Buzz At Games

Bolt's Record-Setting Performances Helping
Create Media Buzz Over Last Week
Texas-based media tracking and analysis firm Global Language Monitor (GLM) indicated that Jamaica sprinter Usain Bolt, China diver Guo Jing Jing, U.S. gymnast Shawn Johnson and Australia swimmer Cate Campbell "have made the largest leap in good media buzz over the past week of the Olympic Games," according to Brent Hunsberger of the Portland OREGONIAN. GLM uses "proprietary software to measure how certain names appear on websites and print media." U.S. swimmer Michael Phelps has ranked No. 1 throughout the Games, but as of August 18, Lin Miaoke, the Chinese girl who lip-synched during the Opening Ceremony, moved ahead of Rockets and China C Yao Ming, who now is No. 3. GLM's brand rankings on August 13 ranked Nike No. 5, ahead of IOC TOP sponsors Samsung, Panasonic and Coca-Cola. But since then, Nike has dropped to No. 9. But GLM President Paul Payack said that "that's still 'impressive.'" View GLM's rankings (OREGONLIVE.com, 8/20).
