PepsiCo's Burwick To Oversee Beverage Brands In New CMO Role

PepsiCo's Dave Burwick
Assumes New CMO Role
PepsiCo Int'l VP/Commercial Dave Burwick "will now oversee the majority of the company's beverage brands, including Gatorade, in a new [CMO] role for a new division," according to Natalie Zmuda of AD AGE. Burwick's appointment is "part of a larger restructuring at the company to create the North America Beverages division." Burwick, who will report to PepsiCo Americas Beverages CEO Massimo d'Amore, "will not handle Tropicana, Izze, Naked or Unilever and Starbucks joint-venture products." Burwick's new position "fills the void left by the departure earlier this summer" of PepsiCo North America Senior VP & CMO Cie Nicholson. As part of the restructuring, "several other executive changes were announced," including that Gatorade President Todd Magazine "will be leaving the company"  (ADAGE.com, 8/19). CONDE NAST PORTFOLIO's Kate MacArthur wrote PepsiCo is "increasing its focus" on Gatorade, as the company "steps up an effort to integrate its portfolio of beverages in North America." Gatorade in June hired former Nike GM of the Western Region Sara Robb O'Hagan as CMO in a "bid to stretch the marketing limits of the brand, and she now will report to Burwick." PepsiCo Chicago Exec VP RICH BECK will become PepsiCo North American Functional Beverages President, with "profit and loss accountability for Gatorade" (PORTFOLIO.com, 8/19). Former PepsiCo's Izze Beverage Co. VP & GM JOHN GALLOWAY in June was named Gatorade VP/Marketing (THE DAILY).
