T'Wolves Unveil New Home,
Road Uniforms For '08-09
The T'Wolves yesterday unveiled their new home and road uniforms for the '08-09 season. The team's home uniform’s primary color will remain white, but the front of the jerseys will return to the franchise’s original design, with the word “Wolves” written across the chest instead of “Timberwolves.” The team’s road uniforms will remain slate blue, but the “Timberwolves” on the front will be replaced with “Minnesota” (T’Wolves). In Minneapolis, Jerry Zgoda noted the pine trees on the uniforms “have been de-emphasized on the neckline and removed from the waistband and moved to new side panels” (STARTRIBUNE.com, 8/18).

ICE COLD: A Pittsburgh TRIBUNE-REVIEW editorial wrote under the header, "Lemieux's Lie: Classless Arrogance." The editorial stated in response to Penguins Chair Mario Lemieux's "threats about moving the franchise if somebody else didn't pony up the cash" for a new arena, "How arrogant. And how classless to say so on the very day that ground was broken for a facility that will line the pockets of the Penguins with gold." The "suckers that most public officials are ... came up with a mix of public, gambling and private dollars." Lemieux "calls the moving threats a negotiating tactic." But "let's call it what it was -- a lie" (Pittsburgh TRIBUNE-REVIEW, 8/17).

NOTES: On Long Island, Ken Berger wrote under the header, "Don't Expect Dolan To Part With Knicks Or Rangers." There is speculation that Cablevision "might be willing to sell [MSG], the Knicks, and Rangers." But sources said that it is "premature to ... celebrate Dolan's departure from" MSG. A source said, "I would say the most likely buyer is probably some group headed by Jim Dolan, personally, because Jim seems to get a lot of pleasure out of those particular assets" (NEWSDAY, 8/17)....The Yankees Thursday fired scouts Carlos Rios and Ramon Valdivia as "part of the continuing fallout in the Dominican bonus-skimming scandal" that MLB's Department of Investigations and the FBI have been investigating since the spring (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 8/16).
