NCAA President Myles Brand for the '06-07 FY "received compensation of more than $935,000," up 4% from the previous FY, according to public tax documents cited by Mark Alesia of the INDIANAPOLIS STAR. According to the latest survey by the Chronicle of Higher Education, Brand's earnings are "more than every public university president in the country ... but much less than what many coaches make." Brand's compensation includes $728,902 in salary, $199,084 in benefits and $7,147 in other allowances. The document also revealed that the NCAA "paid $18.6[M] for plaintiffs' attorneys' fees and a fund for former athletes to settle a class action lawsuit involving limitations on what a scholarship may subsidize." The NCAA also paid $971,000 to a charter air travel company. The other "highest-compensated NCAA employees" are Exec VP Tom Jernstedt ($555,803); Exec VP/Governance & Membership Bernard Franklin ($448,559); CFO James Isch ($428,314); Senior VP/Basketball & Business Strategies Greg Shaheen ($367,183); Senior VP/Branding & Communications Dennis Cryder ($330,482); VP/Division I David Berst ($320,451, not including previously reported retirement funds); General Counsel Elsa Cole ($301,392); and Senior VP/Championships & Senior Woman Administrator Joni Comstock ($275,757) (INDIANAPOLIS STAR, 8/17).
