Maria Sharapova Featured In Canon Ads To Air During U.S. Open

Canon Launching New Sharapova TV Spot
To Coincide With Start Of U.S. Open
The new Canon PowerShot TV spot, featuring Sony Ericsson WTA Tour player Maria Sharapova and her dog Dolce, "shows fans with Elph cameras approaching the player and asking to take a picture," but "unfortunately, the picture they want (to her growing chagrin) is of her dog," according to Karl Greenberg of MEDIAPOST. The ad originally was "slated to launch this spring," but was "postponed to time with the U.S. Open and a [N.Y.] event, 'Canon Center Court.'" The ad will debut on August 25, the first day of the U.S. Open, and "run for its duration on USA Network and CBS." Sharapova also will "unveil five diamond-encrusted Canon PowerShot Elph cameras" during an invitation-only event at the "Canon Center Court" on August 20. Canon USA Senior Marketing Manager Michelle Fernandez said that the five cameras are "worth around $12,000 each." The cameras will be used as "prizes in a national sweepstakes, running from Aug. 20 to Oct. 20 at Powershot.com." Canon will "run local radio, print and outdoor ads in New York to promote the 'Canon Center Court' program and the range of Elph cameras in different hues." Meanwhile, Canon USA endorser former NFLer Archie Manning will promote Canon's Pro Football HOF's "Why Do You Love Football" photo challenge (MEDIAPOST.com, 8/13).
