The NHL announced Exec VP/Business & Media JOHN COLLINS has been promoted to COO. Collins will continue to oversee the league’s business and media operations, in addition to added responsibilities of overseeing all NHL communications and team consulting functions. Collins will report directly to Commissioner GARY BETTMAN and Deputy Commissioner BILL DALY (NHL)....Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) named former NASCAR Senior Account Manager J.J. Damato Dir of Licensing & New Business Development. Damato, who starts August 25, replaces Brooks Busby, who left JGR to become Stewart Haas Racing VP/Licensing. (JGR)....The Islanders named SETH SYLVAN Dir of Communications. For the past seven years, Sylvan was USTA Dir of Communications and prior to that, he served as NBA Senior Dir of Sports Media Relations for 14 years (THE DAILY).
EXECS: The Dodgers named H&R Block Chief Technology Officer MARCO WHITE VP/Information Technology (Dodgers)….MiLB named JOHN SKINNER Managing Dir of Security & Facility Operations. Skinner will work as a liaison between MLB and MiLB. Previously, Skinner was Senior Resident Security Agent for MLB (MiLB)….The N.Y. Times announced JONATHAN ABRAMS has joined the paper and will cover football before moving to pro basketball. Previously, Abrams covered the Clippers for the L.A. Times (LAOBSERVED.com, 8/6)….The EPHL named EUGENE BINDA Supervisor of Officials (EPHL)….The L.A. Memorial Coliseum and Sports Arena named HUGH GALLAGHER GM of Food & Beverage (L.A. Memorial Coliseum Commission)....ANC Sports Enterprises named MARK ROBERTS to the newly-created position of VP/LED Sales. Roberts previously was regional manager for Massachusetts-based Philips Solid State Lighting Solutions (ANC Sports)....Golf lifestyle and travel publicity media relations firm Buffalo Communications named JEN VOSS PR Manager (Buffalo Communications).
