Padres Owner Moores, Wife Fight For Control Of Petco Field Box

Padres Owner JOHN MOORES, whose wife, BECKY, filed for divorce in January, agreed to "give her exclusive use of the managing partner's box" at Petco Park in April, May, June and July, according to a San Diego Superior Court filing cited by Brent Schrotenboer of the SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE. The document said the idea was to "minimize confrontation" between the two. The two "have fought over access to the managing partner's box -- a point that seems especially symbolic as the two sort out who ultimately will control the Padres, the couple's largest community asset." Becky Moores' attorney SANDRA MORRIS in a court filing indicated John Moores, effective July 28, "unilaterally excluded (Becky Moores) from utilizing the owner's box." As a result, Becky Moores "sought relief from the court July 30 for allocation of the box." John Moores' attorney in a filing argued that an "equitable allocation of the box was 'mathematically impossible' this season because Becky Moores already had used it for two-thirds of the season." A hearing on the matter is set for October. Schrotenboer notes John Moores was "seen at Petco Park this past weekend in other boxes," including GM KEVIN TOWERS' box (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 8/7).

REACHING AN AGREEMENT: In West Palm Beach, gossip columnist Jose Lambiet cited Palm Beach County (FL) court documents filed July 29 as indicating that Red Sox Owner JOHN HENRY and his wife, PEGGY SUE, "have reached a marital settlement agreement." Few details "have been leaked so far, including whether [the Red Sox] will be affected." The Henrys reportedly asked Circuit Court Judge AMY SMITH to "appoint a guardian ad litem to watch over the financial interests of their only child" (PALMBEACHPOST.com, 8/6).
