NHL Wants To Install Portable Video
Board For Outdoor Game At Wrigley Field
Sources indicated that the NHL has "negotiated with the Cubs to have a portable video board installed behind the left field bleachers" at Wrigley Field for the January 1 Red Wings-Blackhawks Winter Classic. In Chicago, Paul Sullivan reported if the "one-game experiment for hockey doesn't upset baseball purists, Cubs fans could see a video board one day down the road" (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 8/2).

HOME WORK: In Indianapolis, Bill Ruthart wrote of construction on the Colts' Lucas Oil Stadium, which is set to open this season: "Much of the remaining work inside the stadium is taking place in sponsorship areas." Signs for Clarian Health Partners, which has naming rights for the stadium's southeast corner, were delivered to the stadium last week. Workers also have been "installing signs for companies such as ProLiance Energy, Baker & Daniels and Advantage Health Solutions" (INDIANAPOLIS STAR, 8/2). Also in Indianapolis, Laura Misjak reported in "mid-or late September, demolition workers will simply turn off the 16 fans that supply the [RCA Dome] with air pressure, causing the ceiling to collapse within a half-hour." Contractor Shiel Sexton Senior VP/Operations Tom Scheele said that in December, "a small implosion will turn the rest of the Colts' former home into rubble within six to 10 seconds" (INDIANAPOLIS STAR, 8/2).

COMING ALIVE: ORLANDO BUSINESS JOURNAL's Kristen Stieffel reports "work is under way on the Daytona Live mixed-use development in Daytona Beach," a six-building complex encompassing 240,000 square feet. One of those buildings is an "eight-story, 200,000-square-foot office tower that will house" the HQs for ISC, NASCAR and related businesses. The 71-acre site "will have retail, dining and entertainment venues." A "130-room hotel and a multiplex theater also are planned." The "initial phases of the development have a construction value of about $80[M]" (ORLANDO BUSINESS JOURNAL, 8/1 issue).

BIG SCREEN PLAY: The new video screens at the NFL Panthers' Bank of America Stadium are 31 feet tall by 77 feet high and are more than three times larger than the old ones. The replays are "crystal clear and much easier to see" (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 8/3).
