Jets Will Charge Fans PSLs In New Meadowlands Stadium

Jets To Charge Fans PSLs
For New Meadowlands Stadium
Jets Owner Woody Johnson Saturday during a luncheon with reporters at training camp said that the Jets will "charge their fans" PSLs at the team's new Meadowlands stadium it will share with the Giants, according to Dave Hutchinson of the Newark STAR-LEDGER. Johnson said that the team "decided to follow the Giants, who last month announced a fee structure for PSLs for their season-ticket holders." Johnson added that the exact prices of the Jets' seats have "yet to be determined." But he "left the impression that PSLs would apply to each of the 82,500 seats in the new stadium, scheduled to open for the 2010 season." Johnson said that the team "hopes to have a plan in place by the end of this month." He added that the organization "plans to send out information explaining to the fans exactly what a PSL is because he believes some don't fully understand the concept." He said that the Jets' research "shows many fans have had a 'good experience' with PSLs." Johnson said, "We understand the feeling of the fans. ...We don't want to alienate anybody. I feel pretty good about coming out with something that is reflective of those values and those interests. ... (But) we're not going to be able to make everyone happy and that's something I'm disappointed about." The Jets will be the 16th NFL team to implement PSLs (Newark STAR-LEDGER, 8/3).

MULTI-FUNCTIONAL: Johnson Saturday also revealed that the Jets and Giants are "discussing a plan that would give the owners of [PSLs] first dibs on concert tickets and other non-football events" in the new stadium. Johnson said the plan may include a system for Jets and Giants PSL owners to "alternate events as they come along during the year." He added that the Jets' PSL plan "will be based, in part, on the response to a survey sent to season-ticket holders in June." Johnson indicated that the "lack of public funding for new stadiums in large cities has made PSLs a necessity" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 8/3).

TIME TO SPEAK UP? In N.Y., Phil Mushnick writes, "Give credit to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. While thousands of multiple-decade and multiple-generation Giants and Jets ticket subscribers are being driven out because they can't/won't pay the teams' mortgage on new PSL Stadium, Goodell has managed to ignore the issue, not a public word of regret or contrition" (N.Y. POST, 8/4).
