Jets Owner Expecting Fan Backlash From Team
Using PSLs At New Meadowlands Stadium
On Long Island, Bob Glauber notes Jets Owner Woody Johnson "hasn't specified when the final cost of PSLs will be tallied, and he understands the backlash that invariably will occur once the prices come out" for PSLs at the team's new Meadowlands stadium it will share with the Giants. Johnson: "Until you go out on the market and test something, you're not sure how it's going to work." But Johnson "believes once Jets fans get a look at the new building, they'll think the investment will be worth it." Johnson: "The thing that's interesting to me is that the new stadium won't have someone else's name on it. I don't think you can overestimate the importance of that. Jets fans have always had a stadium with somebody else's name on it" (NEWSDAY, 8/1).

FINAL SHOT: The Flyers on September 27 will play a preseason game against the Hurricanes at the Wachovia Spectrum to "pay homage" to the building. The Spectrum will be demolished to make room for Philly Live, a proposed hotel, retail and entertainment complex (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 8/1). Flyers Senior VP/Business Operations Shawn Tilger said that the team "worked out an arrangement with season-ticketholders in the clubs and suites at the [Wachovia] Center to give them comparable seating in the lower bowl at the Spectrum." Tilger: "Fans will have the opportunity to actually sit in the seats they sat in, that they held when they had season tickets at the Spectrum" (PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS, 8/1).

SUMMER PROJECT: The Georgia World Congress Center Authority Tuesday "unveiled the new look of its 16-year-old Georgia Dome, with seats and interior and exterior paint matching the Falcons' team colors." The renovations, which were financed by the Falcons, include a "new Falcons color-scheme on the dome's exterior, improved concourses and gates, as well as enhanced video boards." Officials said that the bulk of renovations "are complete, though work will continue in some areas until October." The renovations are "phase two of a more than $30[M], two-year overhaul" of the dome (BIZJOURNALS.com, 7/30).

NOTES: The Univ. of Minnesota has raised $77M for its share of costs for the new TCF Bank Stadium, "$9[M] short of the goal of $86[M]" (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 8/1)....Dolphin Stadium and the Marlins "will play host to second-round games" of the '09 World Baseball Classic March 14-19 (South Florida SUN-SENTINEL, 8/1).
