Mosley Restates Intention To Step
Down From FIA Post In October '09
FIA President Max Mosley “has restated his intention to stand down” from his position in October ’09. Mosley’s current term expires next year, and while he “insists he retains the support of the organisation, he maintains that he will not run again” (LONDON TIMES, 7/31). Mosley said that he “will spend his remaining 15 months in office working to enhance [F1’s] green credentials while slashing costs to make life more affordable for the independent teams.” He also will “sort out a new agreement to guarantee a more equitable division of the sport’s commercial rights income” (Manchester GUARDIAN, 7/31).

EARLIER TEE TIME?: PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem Tuesday night told a group of Congressional Country Club members that the Tour is “prepared to move the date" of the AT&T National, which is hosted by Tiger Woods, to "at least a week earlier than its current July 4 holiday week starting in 2012.” Finchem also told the members that the Tour is “amenable to changing the tournament spot on the schedule to a possible May-June slot” (WASHINGTON POST, 7/31).

SHOW MUST GO ON: NHLPA Exec Dir Paul Kelly said that the October 1 exhibition between the Rangers and Russian team Metallurg Magnitogorsk as part of the Victoria Cup “will be played” despite speculation it may be canceled until the Alexander Radulov case is settled. Radulov is under contract with the Predators, but signed a deal earlier this month to play in Russia’s Continental Hockey League. Kelly: “We’ve committed to the game and when we make a commitment, we live by it” (SPORTING NEWS TODAY, 7/31).
